I am 18 ( Grade 1).
How long does it take you to get to school? How do you get here?
I board at the school. My home is a 3 hour drive away - it takes 3 matatu rides [local buses].
Who do you live with? How many brothers and sisters do you have?
I have an 18 year old brother and a 23 year old sister. We live with my parents, when I am not at boarding school.
What do your parents do?
My Dad is a Gospel musician; my Mum doesn't work.
What do you eat for breakfast? For lunch? For dinner?
I have tea for breakfast, chips or rice and vegetables for lunch and spaghetti and vegetables for dinner.
HIV/AIDS
Has HIV/AIDS affected your life?
Yes. I have friends and relatives who are HIV positive. One relative died of AIDS. It is very hard to get medicine as it is very expensive.
One of my friends found out she was HIV positive when she was 17 because her parents noticed something was wrong and encouraged her to have a test. She also found out she was pregnant. She is OK, because they caught it early.
Are you taught about HIV/AIDS at school?
Yes. I think the classes are effective.

I like them.
What is your favourite subject?
Biology.
What do you want to be? How do you see your future?
I have many goals. I would like to be an accountant. I would also like to be a Gospel musician, like my father.
I plan volunteer to do HIV social work/counselling, because of my experiences with my friends and relatives.
How many languages do you speak?
I speak English, Kiswahili, French and Kikuyu.

What is your favourite music?
I like gospel music, hip-hop and Blues.
Do you watch TV/Movies? What is your favourite programme? Film? Actors?
Will Smith is my favourite actor. Titanic is my favourite movie.
What is your favourite sport?
Netball.
What sports do you play? How often do you play sports? Do you play mostly at school or at home?
I play netball at home with my friends and at church.
Do you watch international sports? Do you support any international teams? Who is your favourite sports personality?
I watch basketball. I don't have a favourite sports star or team.

Who are the most famous Kenyans in your view?
Francis Xavier Ole Kaparo, speaker of the Kenaya National Assembly.
Can you name any famous British people?
Danielle Steel.
What do you imagine the UK is like?
I think of a big city - much more executive and flashy than Nairobi. With sky scrapers. I have never watched any English movies though.
